What is a shockwave?

A shockwave is a strong pressure wave produced by supersonic aircraft, lightning, or explosions that create rapid changes in pressure. Shockwave Therapy has been used in medicine to treat kidney stones for several decades now. The first kidney stone disintegrated using shockwave therapy was in 1971! In the early 1980s, the use of shockwave therapy to treat non-healing bone fractures was discovered. The effects shockwave therapy imposed on cells and tissues were becoming well defined through the mid to late 1980s and it became clear that shockwave therapy could be used to stimulate healing and regeneration of bone, tendon, ligament and many other tissues.

In recent years, success in many orthopaedic disorders has been documented in several studies using Shockwave therapy as a form of treatment.

There are many benefits of this evidence-based Shockwave Therapy. The treatment is fast, effective, and a typical treatment plan ranges between 3-5 treatments. In the clinic, we offer this non-surgical intervention for our patients struggling with chronic musculoskeletal conditions and have seen accelerated healing with no side effects and are affordable.
